BFA2 Production Practice

 

There are carefully defined job definitions for each student role when working on a production as well as assessment criteria to measure the ability of the student to fulfil the specified role.

The principle role for an EDT BFA 2 student is now dependant upon the study stream being taken.  It is intended that the primary role is as at an operational level, but can also include lighting or sound designer, production electrician, production engineer, assistant technical director depending on the scale of the production and course pre-reqisits.


Students in the Music Recording stream take on the roles of Recording Engineer and Assistant Recording Engineer.

Assessment Criteria

The assessment criteria are designed to measure the ability of the student to fulfil the selected role.  The assessment criteria identify the skills required to fulfil the role and also the way that the role is carried out.  i.e. how to communicate, how to solve problems, and very important, the attitude while fulfilling the role.


Working on a production is all about teamwork.  It is not just about how well you fulfil your role, but also your attitude and ability to work as part of the production team. 

The assessment criteria are based on the following criteria:


  1. Craft Skills of the selected role

  2. Management Skills

  3. Communication Skills

  4. Problem Solving Skills

  5. Time Management Skills

  6. Personal Skills

  7. personal Objective

The principle production roles for the Sound Design stream are as Sound Operator on normal scale shows, Sound Designer on smaller scale shows and Sound Technician on larger scale shows

The principle production roles for the Sound System Design stream are as Sound Operator on normal scale shows, Production Engineer on smaller scale shows and Sound Technician on larger scale shows

The principle production roles for the Lighting Design stream are as Lighting Board Operator and Assistant Lighting Designer

The principle production roles for the Lighting Technology stream are as Lighting Board Operator and Production Engineer

The principle production roles for the Music recording stream Recording Engineer or Assistant Recording Engineer and Producer on smaller scale sessions

The principle production roles for the Technical Direction stream are as Technical Director or Assistant Technical Director
